چکیده

A new class of computational methods, referred to as decomposition methods, has been developed for predicting failure probability of structural and mechanical systems subject to random loads, material properties, and geometry. The methods involve a novel function decomposition that facilitates univariate and bivariate approximations of a general multivariate function, response surface generation of univariate and bivariate functions, and Monte Carlo simulation. Due to a small number of original function evaluations, the proposed methods are very effective, particularly when a response evaluation entails costly finite-element, mesh-free, or other numerical analysis. Seven numerical examples involving elementary mathematical functions and solid-mechanics problems illustrate the methods developed. Results indicate that the proposed methods provide accurate and computationally efficient estimates of probability of failure. q 2005 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Sources of Change in Energy Consumption in Iran: A Structural Decomposition Analysis

E nergy consumption has increased significantly in Iran during the recent decades. In this study, an inter-industrial model has been improved to investigate the sources of the changes in the energy consumption of the country. The input-output tables of Iran for the years 1988 and 2001 have been employed as the database of the model. The innovation of this research allows the researchers to stud...

ENHANCING WEIGHTED UNIFORM SIMULATION FOR STRUCTURAL RELIABILITY ANALYSIS

Weighted Uniform Simulation (WUS) is recently presented as one of the efficient simulation methods to obtain structural failure probability and most probable point (MPP). This method requires initial assumptions of failure probability to obtain results. Besides, it has the problem of variation in results when it conducted with few samples. In the present study three strategies have been present...
